Once someone becomes an alcoholic they can never drink responsibly again. Many alcoholics use alcohol to forget things that trouble them. When an alcoholic drinks they drink to get drunk to relieve psychological trauma they’ve experienced in the past or present.
What is an alcoholic?
By definition an alcoholic is someone who is dependent upon alcohol. Once an alcoholic has one drink they need to have another and another and can’t control how much they consume.
Alcoholics drink due to negative coping skills. An alcoholic copes with their issues negatively by drinking alcohol because they think it relieves pain. Alcoholics can’t find a positive way to deal with their problems. When someone starts drinking an a daily or weekly basis for a long period of time they’ve become an alcoholic.
People who drink responsibly (non-addicts) don’t benefit from becoming intoxicated. These people don’t find that alcohol helps them out in dealing with mental trauma, or anything in particular. They drink responsibly by having a drink or two occasionally most often in a social environment. Drug addicts aren’t different than alcoholics other than they use illegal drugs instead of alcohol. Yes alcohol is a drug.
Once someone becomes an alcoholic or drug addict they’re one for life. When someones addicted to something they can’t practice that addiction responsibly. Alcoholics who stop drinking for a long period of time are still alcoholics because they will go back to a life of drinking in excess if they start drinking again. It’s the same for someone who’s addicted to crack. Once someone is addicted to crack isn’t able to control how much crack they consume even after a period of abstinence. There’s no way to cure alcoholism or drug addiction except to stop using.
